Alberta High School Diploma Requirements

| To earn an Alberta High School Diploma, a student must: |
~earn a minimum of 100 credits |
|
| and meet the minimum standards and complete the following courses: |
~English 30-1 or 30-2 |
~Social Studies 30 or 33 |
~Mathematics 20, Pure or Applied, Mathematics 24 |
~Science 20, 24, Biology 20, Chemistry 20 or Physics 20 |
|
| NOTE: For those going to 30-level and 33-level courses, successful completion of a diploma examination is required. |
| and successfully complete the following: |
~Physical Education 10 (3 credits) |
~Career and Life Management (CALM - 3 credits) |
~10 credits, in any combination from Career and Technology Studies (C.T.S.) OR Fine Arts OR Second Languages |
~10 credits, in any 30-level courses (including locally developed/acquired and authorized courses) in addition to English 30-1 or 30-2 and Social Studies 30 or 33 |

The Certificate of Achievement
|
| Students may choose to earn credits toward the Certificate of Achievement. To qualify for a Certificate of Achievement, students must earn a minimum of 80 credits, 67 of which are defined as follows: |

Retroactive Credits
|
A student who fails a course in a subject with more than one series and a final mark no lower than 45% may proceed to the next higher course in the alternate series (e.g. English 10-1, 20-1, 30-1 series - English 10-2, 20-2, 30-2)
Upon successful completion of the 23 or 33 level course, a student is eligible for retroactive credits in the prerequisite course at the 13 or 23 level provided credits have not already been granted in either the 10-20 or the 13-23 series. |
